The handling of Ashton Agar on Australia's ongoing India tour have raised several questions about team management. After being picked in the squad, Agar flew home over the weekend without playing a Test in the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Now, former Australian skipper and batter Mark Taylor has expressed his disappointment over the support staff and fears that the all-rounder may not play international red-ball cricket again.

Agar made a successful return to the Test arena in January, when Australia faced South Africa in Sydney, where he remained wicketless.

Speaking to Wide World of Sports, Taylor stated that he is confident about Matthew Kuhnemann's future, however, is not sure about Agar's.

Kuhnemann played the Delhi Test, where Australia picked three spinners including Todd Murphy and Nathan Lyon.

Meanwhile, Mitchell Swepson has regrouped with the touring party, and will be available for selection in the third Test, which begins from March 1.

Here's what Taylor said

"I don't know what his future is as a Test player. They picked him for the Sydney Test, which I thought was a good selection because they were thinking about the series in India. But then they didn't pick him in India. So I don't see what sort of future he has left.

I've got no doubt now that the selectors will be looking at the development of Matthew Kuhnemann as a left-arm spinner, so I don't know where that leaves Agar."

Interestingly, the five-Test-old Agar has been picked in Australia's ODI squad for the three-match series which follows after the BGT next month.

Pat Cummins and Co. are 0-2 behind in the series.
