Australian all-rounder, Glenn Maxwell has stated that his recovery process is still going slow and he hopes to get match-fit ahead of a crucial period for Australia.

However, Maxwell reckons that his slower recovery from injury will have a longer benefits, considering the fact that 2023 is a World Cup year.

He has not played for Australia post the 2022 T20 World Cup due to a freak injury that broke his leg. But the 34-year-old was a surprise inclusion in the Aussie squad for the upcoming ODI series against India, starting in March.

As a result of his devastating injury, Maxwell missed the ODI series against England last year, the Big Bash League tournament, and missed out on an opportunity to play Test cricket in India.

After a lengthy rehabilitation process, Maxwell returned playing club cricket in Victoria, and was also in the Victoria squad for the Sheffield Shield game this week.

Here's what Maxwell said:

"It probably hasn't happened as fast as I would have liked. I probably would have liked to be playing cricket a little bit earlier. But I think the fact that I knew the timeline for the one-day side - and that was probably the realistic goal - I was able to manipulate my rehab program to fit the timeline that I was racing against," Maxwell said.

He added: "Having not played for three-and-a-half months, I made a conscious decision to make sure I filled up my calendar with cricket to lead into that World Cup at the back end of the year. Obviously there's the one-day series which is going to be a big series, especially with the World Cup in India at the back end of the year."

The dashing batter also revealed that he is not mentally hundred percent from a batting point of view. He registered scores of 5 and 0 on his return to first-class cricket, but believes runs will come with more time in the middle.
