Ben Stokes has not been in the best of touch in England’s mixed-bag of a T20 World Cup 2022 campaign in Australia. The dynamic all-rounder notched up scores of just two and six in the matches against Afghanistan and Ireland, however, he did claim crucial wickets with the ball in both outings.

England’s assistant coach and former captain Paul Collingwood has backed the senior player to come up good with the bat at some point in the tournament. The 2010 T20 World Cup-winning skipper believes any team would want to have someone like Stokes walk out to bat in a crunch situation.

Paul Collingwood says Ben Stokes capable of performing in a crunch game

Paul Collingwood believes a match-winning innings is just around the corner for Ben Stokes. According to the former cricketer, the star all-rounder is capable of performing in a crunch game and he presents a lot of option through his skillset.

Collingwood claimed that since England is now heading into the crucial stages of the tournament, Stokes is bound to come to the fore in such a situation. He said:

“I guess the one person that you want in your team when the pressure is on is Ben Stokes. I know well that if it comes down to the crunch that you want a man like Ben Stokes walking out. Not just what he gives with the bat, the options with the ball, and the skill level he brings into the field, as well.”

“But I’m pretty confident there’s an innings just around the corner, and now we’re coming into the crucial part of the World Cup, and it’s almost a knockout stage for us.”
