Australia completed a 42-run trouncing of Ireland in their latest Group 1 match of the T20 World Cup 2022. Adam Zampa was one of the architects of Australia’s one-sided win, as the spinner claimed 2-19 off his economical four-over spell in Brisbane.
Zampa dismissed Mark Adair and Fionn Hand to sink Ireland in their run-chase further, as Australia added two crucial points to their campaign.
When Zampa dismissed Adair in the 13th over of the Irish innings, the ace spinner completed 250 wickets in T20 cricket. Later in the evening, the 30-year-old stretched his T20 tally to 251 wickets by rattling Fionn Hand’s stumps.
The seasoned campaigner became only the fifth Australian to scale the landmark figure, after the likes of Dan Christian (276 wickets), Andrew Tye (274 wickets), James Faulkner (262 wickets) and Dirk Nannes (257 wickets). Moreover, the cricketer is also the first spinner from his country to do so.
The right-arm spinner has played 71 T20Is for Australia and claimed 80 wickets at an impressive average of 22. Besides his international commitment, Zampa is also a frequent T20 freelancer, having represented teams within Big Bash League, IPL, CPL, and The Hundred.
