'Dhundo Dhundo Re Saajna' - When Gavaskar Took A Hilarious Dig At Rohit Sharma

Sunil Gavaskar is known for his humorous jibes amidst a dose of technical analysis as a commentator. The Indian batting legend once took an open dig at opener Rohit Sharma's technique and struggles versus South African pace legend Dale Steyn's unplayable outswingers with a funny reference to a classic Hindi song.

The incident is from the 2012 edition of the IPL when playing for the Mumbai Indians (MI), Rohit missed four consecutive balls against Steyn, who was representing the now-defunct Deccan Chargers, leading Gavaskar to sing legendary Lata Mangeshkar's "Dhundo Dhundo Re Saajna".

In a post-match analysis bit for Sony Sports Network's 'Extra Innings' show, Gavaskar observed a clip reinforcing Rohit's struggles to Steyn's outswingers past his edge and the great batter sang Mangeshkar's gem on air, much to the amusement of the viewers, who still recall the incident from time to time.

When Gavaskar Took A Funny Dig At Rohit

Gavaskar managed to retain his humour even as he stood critical of Rohit's technique and issues facing Steyn's outswingers. The perfect blend of the two saw the former India skipper indulge in the popular Hindi song, which had fellow expert Navjot Singh Siddhu and host Gaurav Kapur burst out laughing.

To be fair to Rohit, Steyn's ability to deliver snake-like leg-cutters peerlessly close to the off-stump at 145 kmph was always an enormous and near-unplayable challenge to counter.

But the MI opener did a decent job by adapting a measured approach as he then decided to play Steyn out by pausing his big strokes and focusing on rotating the strike.

Once Rohit managed to overcome the Steyn threat, he unleashed his wrath against the rest of the Chargers attack and went on to play a match-winning knock for his team.
