Milestone man Rohit Sharma added another feather to his illustrious T20I hat by scoring handy runs for India in their third and final match of the series against Afghanistan. The ‘Men in Blue’ skipper bludgeoned a scintillating century around tumbling Powerplay wickets at the other end, and led team’s recovery alongside big-hitting barbarian Rinku Singh.

Remarkably, through the course of Sharma’s recovery blitz at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, the dashing opening batsman also surpassed New Zealand legend Martin Guptill by attaining a significant T20I milestone.

Rohit Sharma made his return to India’s T20I through the ongoing series against Afghanistan after a gap of nearly 14 months. While the cricketer celebrated the occasion by leading his side to emphatic wins against the visitors, he failed to add a run to his tally as he was dismissed for successive ducks at Mohali and Indore.

Sharma eventually registered his first runs of the series in the third game by tallying the 34th fifty-plus T20I score of his career. He reached his century in 64 balls and ended up scoring 121* off just 69 balls.

Rohit Sharma slammed eight sixes in his knock and took India to a mammoth total of 212. He has total of 190 sixes in T20Is and 168 of those have come as an opener.

After Rohit Sharma’s latest six-hitting bombardment, here is a revised list of top five T20I batters with most sixes to their names as openers:

  • Rohit Sharma - 168 sixes
  • Martin Guptill - 161 sixes
  • Paul Stirling - 122 sixes
  • Aaron Finch - 116 sixes
  • Evin Lewis - 111 sixes
