Chennai Super Kings clinched their fifth IPL title, defeating Gujarat Titans by five wickets in a rain-curtailed encounter at Ahmedabad's Narendra Modi Stadium on May 30th.

Ravindra Jadeja, the star CSK all-rounder, showcased his nerves of steel by smashing a six and a four off the last two balls of the chase when 10 runs were required off the last two balls, ensuring a breathtaking victory for his team.

Devon Conway's explosive batting at the top of the order earned him the well-deserved ‘Player of the Match’ award, as he blazed his way to 47 runs off a mere 25 deliveries. His terrific start laid the foundation for the team's successful run chase.

Overwhelmed by the title victory, Conway hailed the IPL 2023 win as the ‘biggest win' of his career. He further opened up about his time with the MS Dhoni-led side and the invaluable lessons he has learned in two months with the team.

Here’s what Conway said during post-match conference:

"Personally, the biggest win in my career. An IPL final, nothing gets bigger than this. A lot of credit goes to fellow left-hander Mike Hussey. It’s nice to be in his shoes. It was a great experience."

"I was lucky enough to play a few matches towards the end of the IPL last year, so I got a taste of what it is like, what the pressure is like, and what the team expects from me. Also, having that support from the first game during this campaign has definitely helped me to be at my best and find my rhythm throughout the tournament."

However, Conway's statement that the Chennai Super Kings' title win was his biggest career achievement didn't sit well with New Zealand fans with many voicing their discontent, arguing that Conway should prioritize his national team's victory in the ICC World Test Championship final of 2021 over the IPL victory.

Responding to the criticism, the Kiwi batter said that the CSK win stands as the ‘best T20 win’ of his career, but it does not surpass his greatest achievement in general, precisely the New Zealand’s World Test Championship victory over India in the it’s inaugural season.

Here’s what Conway told RNZ:

"I think it’s the best T20 win of my career, I wouldn’t say it’s my best win. But definitely the best T20 win or achievement of my career. Also, the Test Championship final, to win it for New Zealand was definitely very special."

Devon Conway finished the IPL 2023 as the highest run-scorer for CSK, having amassed 672 runs from 15 matches at an average of 51.69 and a strike rate of around 140. The exceptional starts provided by Conway and Ruturaj Gaikwad were instrumental in the Super Kings' success in the tournament.
