County legend Wayne Madsen has extended his stay at Derbyshire County Cricket Club (DCCC). Madsen and Derbyshire have mutually agreed to a two-year deal that will keep the prolific batter until the end of 2024.

The 38-year-old has played for Derbyshire since 2009 and is the club's third-highest run-scorer with 19,496 runs.

The right-handed batter amassed 1,273 runs in the County Championship 2022 and also became only the third club player to record hundreds in each format.

Madsen, who scored his maiden T20 ton in T20 Blast 2022, has amassed 14,125 runs in 214 First-Class matches. Additionally the player has 3,323 and 3,702 runs to his name, repectively, in 105 List-A and 151 T20s.

Here's what Madsen said on his extension

"I have loved my time with the Club so far, but there’s so much to be excited about with the current project and that’s something I want to be a part of,

"I want to lift trophies with Derbyshire, the Members and supporters deserve success and with Mickey and the current crop of players we have, we are heading in the right direction to do just that."

Coach Mickey Arthur, too, lauded the veteran batter for his work ethic.

"His 2022 season showed that he’s as good as ever, and having that experience in your top order is invaluable, while his willingness to help our younger players in their development is exactly what we want from our senior players."
