Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed landed himself in hot water after a cheeky Instagram post that didn’t sit well with Indian fans. The 26-year-old spinner used the infamous ‘Tea is fantastic’ line for his caption to troll India, but instead got a taste of his own medicine.
India’s political relations with Pakistan have never been stable since the 1947 partition. Though sportspersons from both countries tend to avoid having conflicting discussions, Abrar crossed a line during the Champions Trophy 2025.
Abrar Ahmed Troll Storm Hit Social Media After ‘Tea’ Jibe
After Pakistan’s group stage exit from the 2025 Champions Trophy, Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed posted a photo sipping hot tea, with the caption: “Last cup of fantastic evening tea before the start of Ramadan fasting.”
What looked like a normal post quickly turned controversial because of its reference to the famous “Tea is fantastic” line from 2019, when Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman was captured by Pakistan.

A video at the time showed Abhinandan sipping tea while in Pakistani custody and remarking, “The tea is fantastic,” a line that has since been repeatedly used by Pakistanis in memes and banter.
But this time, things backfired. Indian fans saw Abrar Ahmed and his action as a cheap attempt at trolling and came down hard on him. Social media platforms were soon flooded with fiery comments and memes mocking Pakistan’s cricket team for their recent failures in several ICC tournaments.
Pakistan’s on-field woes only made things worse. The men in green failed to win a single game in the group stage, losing to New Zealand and arch-rivals India before their last fixture against Bangladesh was washed out.
With just one point from three games, the hosts bowed out of the tournament in embarrassing fashion.
Abrar And Faheem Targeted In #BoycottAsiaCup Trend
Ahead of India-Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 clash scheduled on September 14, the #BoycottAsiaCup trend has taken over social media. Indian fans demand severing of sporting ties with Pakistan, citing degrading comments made by Pakistani cricketers against India in the past.
Abrar Ahmed and Faheem Ashraf’s comments are being widely circulated, as both players are part of Pakistan’s Asia Cup squad. However, with no official reaction from either BCCI or ACC, the match is likely to unfold as per schedule.
