Aaqib Javed feels Shoaib Malik would've made a difference for Pakistan

Under Babar Azam’s leadership, Pakistan sustained back-to-back setbacks to launch their T20 World Cup 2022 run. For starters, the ‘Men in Green’ lost to India off the last ball at the MCG. Later, Zimbabwe defeated them by a run in a low-scoring thriller.

However, according to former Pakistan cricketer Aaqib Javed, the team could have avoided both defeats and kept their tournament campaign going had they included Shoaib Malik in the squad. The ex-pacer hailed Malik for his fitness and game awareness and explained how he could have made a difference for Pakistan in the showpiece event.

Here's what Javed commented

“Shoaib Malik is the fittest and has a better game-awareness compared to others. If he was part of the team, Pakistan would have defeated both India and Zimbabwe.”

The middle-order has been pathetic, to say the least, for Pakistan in the tournament. Probably, that's what prompted Javed to put such an opinion forward.

Pakistan will now face the Netherlands on October 30 in Perth. While the Babar Azam-led side is not out of the competition completely, they need to ensure big wins in all three of their remaining Group 2 games.
