Team Ireland’s juggernaut continues this T20 World Cup 2022, as they upstaged England to collect their opening Group B points. They also registered a thumping win over two-time World Champions West Indies last week, to storm into the Super 12 round of the tournament.

While both of these Irish wins have been dubbed as “upsets” by the cricketing fraternity, a certain former captain believes such results should not be celebrated as a surprise. According to him, the Ireland team have secured many wins against some top teams over the years to warrant regular reactions.

Wilson calls to stop over-glamorising “semi-regular” wins

Former cricketer Gary Wilson believes that fans need to stop over-hyping Ireland’s wins over top international teams. He stated that his team has already defeated enough top sides over the years, and it has gotten to a stage where any “big win” should merely be considered as a win.

He said:

“Even all the good wins over the years, I don't really like to compare because it's now getting to the stage where, when do we stop talking about big wins and when do they just become wins? Because it is happening sort of semi-regularly now, and that's where we want to get to. We don't want to be all: 'Shock, Ireland win again.' It's now happening a little bit more. And with that becomes a little bit more responsibility and a different pressure.”
