17-year-old Pranav Ragavendra has been making the noise for the past couple of days as the budding Indian cricketer clocked 147.3 kmph during India's Under-19 camp currently set up at BCCI's Centre of Excellence.
Notably, Pranav stole the limelight as he bowled the fastest delivery by an Under-19 cricketer as reported by Indian Express and quoted by news18. This feat took over the internet as fans got curious about the rising star and are touting him to become the next Mayank Yadav, Umran Malik of India and breach the 150 kmph barrier soon.
The young talent, who is a great prospect and holds the potential to become the fastest bowler produced in India, is currently a part of India's U-19 squad and will tour England for the multi-format tour.
Who Is Pranav Ragavendra?
Pranav was born in Vellore, Tamil Nadu and grew up wanting to be an athlete. The 17-year-old initially enrolled into sprinting but later switched to cricket as he had a reserved nature and his parents wanted him to play a team sport, which is how cricket happened for Ragavendra.
The youngster has already worked under Australia fast-bowling legend Glenn McGrath during MRF pace foundation and was impressed by the youngster as he clocked 139 kmph at the age of 16.
Pranav has already played two First-Class games for Tamil Nadu, against Assam and Railways in 2024, picking up two wickets. He’s also part of the IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League season.
Pranav Reacts To His Recent Hype
"I love speed and I want to bowl fast. It always feels great when you scare batsmen with bouncers and hit their gloves with the hard length. To continue doing it, I have to work on a lot of aspects, including accuracy, which is why I don’t keep an eye on the speed gun," he told Indian Express.
To bowl fast, I need to ensure fitness remains my top priority and for that, I need to take care of myself by doing the right things. Be it skillset training or fitness drills or recovery… everything is non-negotiable if I have to be part of next year’s U-19 World Cup and beyond," he added.
Similar to several other speedsters, Pranav too would eye to match or break Shoaib Akhter's record for bowling the fastest delivery in cricket - 161.3.
