Persistent rain causes day one to end prematurely as Windies' top-order resist

Only 51 overs were possible on the first day's play as not even a single ball was bowled during the third session. West Indies' opening pair held their fort to end without losing any of their wickets.

West Indies shows clear intent

The coin fell in Windies skipper Kraigg Brathwaite opted to bat first on the Bulawayo wicket which looked tacky at first. However, the son of former West Indies superstar Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Tagenarine displayed his grit to form a decent partnership with his captain.

Both of them started slowly but picked up pace gradually as the match progressed scoring runs against a well-planned bowling line-up of the Chevrons. Brathwaite and Chanderpaul notched up their fifties by batting long fine hours as they were playing occasional shots.

Batting 138 balls, the captain is at 55 unbeaten similar to his partner who is on the identical score but has consumed more deliveries. While the former has found two fours, the youngster has pierced the gap eight times during the knock.

Rain Rain go away

Soon after they reached their fifties, the rain gods started to look down before the end of the second session. And as the downpour began, there was no stopping which ultimately led to stumps being called.

The home side were in search of a breakthrough which they never achieved. However, the likes of Victor Nyauchi and Richard Ngarava were consistent at times and will now be hopeful of striking with their deliveries when they return tomorrow morning, only if the rain stays away.
