The much-awaited Test series between India and Australia begins next week with the first game scheduled on February 9 in Nagpur.

However, unfortunately for the visitors, promising all-rounder Cameron Green hasn't recovered from a thumb injury he sustained during the home Test series against South Africa.

Amidst Australia's preparations for the first Test, skipper Pat Cummins has revealed that Green's fitness doesn't look convincing. As a result, the 23-year-old will most probably be benched in Nagpur.

"I know he won’t be bowling. The next week’s obviously really important. He hasn’t been able to do a lot yet. I think the nature of that particular injury is once it comes good, it comes good really quickly. Hopefully we’re at that stage where the next week, it really does improve a lot. I haven’t seen how that’s gone, but we’ll see how the next week goes, the next few days in particular, and map out a plan."

Since debuting in 2020, Green has established himself as a vital cog in Australian Test setup, scoring 806 runs and scalping 23 wickets in 18 appearances.

Considering he had an outstanding home summer with bat and ball, his absence could be a massive blow for the visitors in the series opener.
