The International Cricket Council has denied the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s initial request to shift the venues for Bangladesh’s matches in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2026. However, fresh reports suggest that the apex body of Bangladesh cricket has once again approached ICC with a fresh formal request for the venue change.

This marks the second time the BCB has sought a shift, following the Mustafizur Rahman–Kolkata Knight Riders row. Earlier, the BCB had clearly stated that Bangladesh would move its World Cup matches away from Indian venues, citing serious safety concerns for its players.

The issue intensified after Mustafizur Rahman was removed from the Kolkata Knight Riders squad and barred from playing IPL 2026, allegedly due to rising anti-Muslim sentiments in the country.

The situation further escalated following reports of a Bangladeshi Hindu national, Dipu Chandra Das, being mob-lynched in Bangladesh, which sent shockwaves across India.

ICC to respond to Bangladesh’s new request within 48 hours

According to bdcrictime reports, the ICC is expected to respond to the BCB’s latest request within the next two days, which should clarify whether Bangladesh’s World Cup fixtures will eventually be moved.

In its latest communication, the BCB has made its position unambiguous, reiterating that it remains firm on shifting its World Cup matches away from Indian venues.

PCB joins hands with Bangladesh to support India boycott

Pakistan has also entered the fray in support of Bangladesh’s stance on not playing in India. Notably, Pakistan, which is itself at odds with India, is scheduled to play all its T20 World Cup 2026 matches outside India, in Sri Lanka, the co-host of the tournament.

Although Bangladesh were originally slated to play all four of their group-stage matches on Indian soil, support from the Pakistan Cricket Board for Bangladesh playing outside India has further intensified the situation.

With the T20 World Cup 2026 set to begin on February 7, the ICC is expected to take a call within the next 48 hours. Based on that decision, either the BCB or the BCCI may be required to act swiftly.
