Mitchell Starc drove Australia to victory over England in the second ODI of their three-match series. The ace speedster dismissed Jason Roy and Dawid Malan for first-over ducks before mopping up the English tail at the SCG.

Starc, who finished the contest with figures of 4-47, was fittingly adjudged as ‘Player of the Match’ for his efforts. After the match, the senior Australian cricketer said that the team will be looking to finish off the series with a 3-0 sweep by getting another win at the MCG on November 22.

Mitchell Starc lauds Smith and Labuschagne for huge win

The match marked the first in Josh Hazlewood’s career as Australia’s ODI captain. His teammate Starc expressed his excitement of registering a win on his captaincy debut and hoped for a 3-0 sweep over the visitors.

The 32-year-old speed demon also praised Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne for laying the foundation upfront with crafty half-centuries. The two batters formed a 101-run stand for the third wicket after Australia had lost both their openers within the first 10 overs of the match.

Starc further hailed team’s leading spinner Adam Zampa for picking up the crucial English wickets in the middle overs. He said:

“Yeah, pretty good, I guess. Nice to have a series win. Now hope to move on to Melbourne and get another win. It was great to run in harder and finish my action with full flow. It was nice to get the job done for Josh.

"Yeah, it was about bowling in partnerships. We did it well. Obviously, it was Smith, as usual, sparkling in the bat for us. He (Josh Hazlewood) led from the front, and that is what you get from him. Zampa has been a wicket-taker for years for us, and he does it again and again in the middle overs.”
