Indian veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat produced a brilliant spell with the ball as Sussex bowled out Yorkshire for 194 on the opening day of their County Championship clash at Hove. The left-arm pacer finished with 3/36, including the prized wicket of England star Jonny Bairstow.
Yorkshire, who won the toss and chose to bat, looked steady early on as openers Adam Lyth and Finlay Dean put on 69 runs. But just before lunch, things began to unravel.

Dean, on 27, played a rash shot outside off stump and edged to the keeper off Fynn Hudson-Prentice, who went on to grab 3/33. Lyth soon followed, inside-edging Sean Hunt for 47, giving Sussex two quick strikes before the break.
The afternoon session saw more trouble for Yorkshire. Ollie Robinson dismissed James Wharton cheaply before Indian pacer Jaydev Unadkat joined the party to clean bowl Jonny Bairstow through the gate for just 2, a moment that sent the Hove crowd roaring.
Unadkat struck again to remove Matthew Revis, while Hudson-Prentice picked up two in two balls, leaving Yorkshire tottering at 115 for 7. There was some resistance from Jordan Thompson and Mayank Agarwal, who added 52 runs for the eighth wicket.
But Jaydev Unadkat returned to dismiss Agarwal for 26, and James Coles made up for an earlier dropped catch by holding a sharp chance. Jack Carson then wrapped up the innings with 2/25 as Yorkshire collapsed to 194.
At stumps, Sussex were 84/4, still trailing by 110 runs. James Coles fought hard for his 29 but was caught at mid-wicket, leaving the home side with work to do.
Unadkat Still Fighting For India Comeback
Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat, who debuted across formats for India, has struggled to cement his place in the national side. Having featured in 2023 as his last appearance, his count is 4 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 10 T20Is. With the Indian pace bowling being dominated by Bumrah, Shami, and Siraj, the chances have run dry. Being 35 now, retirement looks inevitable.
