Indian wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson gave fans a fun surprise during the Asia Cup 2025, as he revealed what his "perfect batter" would look like. Speaking in a light-hearted video, Samson picked different attributes from his teammates and even a coach to build the ultimate cricketer.
Samson, who ruled 2024 with 487 runs in 17 T20Is as an opener, has not batted yet in this Asia Cup 2025, with India preferring Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill at the top.
The wicket-keeper batter has been dropped to no.5, and his turn to step onto the crease is yet to come.
Sanju Samson Reveals His Ultimate Cricketer
Meanwhile, in a video released by Sony Sports Network, Sanju Samson opened up on what an ideal batter will look like. He started with swagger, and his choice was obvious: Hardik Pandya.
"Swagger has to be Hardik. I love how Abhishek is swinging it at the moment. Power hitting has to be me," Samson said.
Known for his six-hitting power and cool attitude, Hardik, according to Samson, oozes confidence every time he walks out to bat.
For the bat swing, Samson went with Abhishek Sharma, who has been in fine form and impressing everyone with his crisp hitting. When it came to power-hitting, Samson cheekily picked himself, saying he trusts his own big-hitting ability.
For elegance, the Kerala star didn’t look further than Shubman Gill, who has made a name for himself with classy cover drives and silky stroke play. He then added Suryakumar Yadav for a range of shots, highlighting SKY’s famous 360-degree hitting ability.
The most surprising pick came in the defence category. Instead of choosing a batter, Samson went with Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace spearhead. Samson explained that no one in modern T20 cricket seems to defend anymore, so he jokingly chose Bumrah.
"I do not see anyone defending nowadays. No one is doing it. Everyone is standing and hitting sixes," he added.
Finally, for clutch performances, he picked India’s current head coach Gautam Gambhir, who famously played match-winning knocks in the finals of the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup.
That being said, with India already through to the Super Four stage of the Asia Cup 2025, fans are eager to see if Sanju Samson finally gets a chance to show off his “perfect batter” qualities on the field.
