After bowling a match-winning spell of 2/11 in his four overs, left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed was awarded the player of the match against Afghanistan in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. With this award, he has now become the joint second Bangladeshi player with the most player-of-the-match awards in T20I cricket for Bangladesh.

It turned out to be a fantastic day for left-arm spinner Nasum Ahmed, who was breathing fire right at the beginning of the Afghanistan innings as he dismissed Sediqullah Atal and Ibrahim Zadran, both as early as the fifth over, where his two wickets came with just 11 runs in his four-over spell.
He also bowled a maiden, and while maintaining an economy of 2.80, as he helped Bangladesh overcome the Afghanistan challenge by just eight runs in a blockbuster game at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Therefore, after bowling an outstanding spell, he was awarded the player of the match award for this encounter for his match-winning performance against Afghanistan, which was his fifth player of the match award for Bangladesh in T20I cricket.
Therefore, with his fifth award, he is now the joint-second highest player with the most player-of-the-match awards for his nation, joining the likes of Litton Das and Mahmudullah Riyad with five each in this tally. Where they are only behind legendary Shakib Al Hasan, who sits at the top with a whopping 12 player-of-the-match awards in T20I cricket for Bangladesh.

How Bangladesh Surpassed Afghanistan In Abu Dhabi?
After putting up 154 runs for the loss of five wickets after the completion of the 20 overs, Bangladesh still had a decent score on the board thanks to Tanzid Hasan's 52 off 31 deliveries. In reply, the Afghanistan side didn't have a significant contribution from any batter as they could only reach 146 after the completion of their overs, failing to get past the finishing line, losing by a margin of just eight runs.
Along with Nasum, Mustafizur Rahman was fantastic as well, picking three wickets for 28 runs in his four overs, as Taskin Ahmed and Rishad Hossain also grabbed two apiece.
