Indian opener, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked in sublime touch before falling for a well-made 67 on Day 1 of Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy encounter against Rajasthan at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The attacking left-hander once again showed why he is considered one of India’s brightest red-ball prospects as he grinded it out with patience as Mumbai scored 100/1 in 31.1 overs.
Jaiswal stands tall for Mumbai
Batting first after Rajasthan chose to field, Yashasvi Jaiswal looked hungry from the word go. He weathered the early movement, punished the bad balls and rotated strike like a seasoned pro. His 97-ball stay included eight fours and one six.
The youngster looked set for a big one before Aniket Choudhary finally broke through, getting him caught behind for 67. However, by then, the damage was done as Jaiswal had already laid a strong platform for Mumbai.
At the other end, Musheer Khan played the supporting role perfectly as he scored an unbeaten 32 off 97 balls. The pair stitched together a century stand and showed maturity beyond their years.
Grinding it out before IND vs SA Test series
For Jaiswal, this innings was valuable preparation before India’s two-match Test series against South Africa, beginning on November 14.
He is clearly in the zone, using the Ranji grind to fine-tune his technique and temperament. From leaving balls outside off to picking gaps with perfection, Jaiswal is working hard in the shadows before the big stage lights up again.
At the time of writing, Musheer Khan (32*) and Ajinkya Rahane (3*) are holding the fort with Mumbai in control at 107/1. With big names like Sarfaraz Khan and Shardul Thakur still waiting in the wings, the visitors will look to pile on a massive first-innings total.
