Yashasvi Jaiswal celebrated his reunion with Mumbai teammates in Ranji Trophy with an electrifying half-century on Day 1 of their Elite Group D match against Rajasthan. The blistering left-hander backed up his swift fifty with another century, doing so in the third innings of the match as Mumbai looks to overcome its huge deficit.
Opening the innings with Musheer Khan and up against a deficit of 363 runs, Yashasvi Jaiswal shaped a regal century on Day 4 from just 120 balls with 11 elegant boundaries. Through the course of his knock, the 23-year-old also attained a major Ranji Trophy milestone for Mumbai, on his IPL home ground no less.
Yashasvi Jaiswal completes 1,000 Ranji Trophy runs
Yashasvi Jaiswal has now completed 1,000 Ranji Trophy runs for Mumbai after cracking a fifty and a century against Rajasthan. Returning to his IPL home ground, Rajasthan Royals’ Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the cricketer reached the milestone figure in just 21 innings, averaging nearly 54 in 11 matches.
It is worth noting that the left-hander had made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai back in January 2019 during the 2018-19 edition of the tournament, doing so at a tender age of 17.
Notching up his 17th first-class century, and his second in succession since whacking a match-winning 175 against West Indies in Delhi last month, Yashasvi Jaiswal also sent out a warning shot to South African bowlers ahead of India’s upcoming two-match home Test series against them.
As it happened, the prodigious Indian Test opener started off Mumbai’s second innings by crafting a 149-run opening partnership with Musheer Khan (63) in less than 35 overs. Despite Yashasvi Jaiswal’s counterattacking century, the Mumbai team still finds itself another 170 runs away from Rajasthan’s single-innings total by the time of reaching lunch on Day 4.
