North Zone’s young batter Yash Dhull once again showcased his temperament in red-ball cricket with a commanding century on Day 3 of the Duleep Trophy 2025 quarter-final against East Zone at the BCCI Centre of Excellence Ground, Bengaluru. His well-paced knock, coupled with captain Ankit Kumar’s fine hundred, has placed North Zone in complete control of the contest.

Yash Dhull’s Classy Ton Puts North Zone in Command

Resuming their second innings with a healthy lead, North Zone openers provided a steady start before Shubham Khajuria fell for 21, leaving the scoreboard at 54/1. That brought Yash Dhull to the crease, and from that moment the East Zone bowlers were put under severe pressure.

Dhull batted with fluency and authority, mixing textbook strokes with calculated aggression. He brought up his century off 135 balls and eventually reached 133 from 157 deliveries, laced with 14 fours and three sixes, before falling lbw to Riyan Parag. His innings ensured North Zone’s lead swelled past 500 runs.

Ankit Kumar, on the other hand, continued to anchor from the other end, batting on an unbeaten 155 at the time of writing. His partnership with Dhull worth 240 runs for the second wicket completely deflated East Zone’s attack.

By the drinks break in the third session, North Zone were cruising at 348/2, ahead by a mammoth 523 runs. With Ayush Badoni joining Ankit in the middle, the dominance looked far from over.

Dhull Adds To His Growing Reputation

This ton adds to Dhull’s growing reputation as one of India’s brightest young batting prospects. His recent form across formats has been impressive. Prior to this knock, Dhull smashed 53 (37) and 72 (49) in T20s, alongside a breathtaking 105 (56) in another outing.

Though he managed only 39 in the first innings of this quarter-final, his second-innings hundred has underlined his ability to bounce back strongly.

With such consistency at just 22 years of age, Dhull continues to make a strong case for higher honours. North Zone, meanwhile, look poised to march into the semi-finals with a massive advantage as East Zone face the daunting task of chasing a near-impossible target.
