Team Preview
West Indies
The Shai Hope-inspired West Indies, chased down a mammoth 326-run target after the skipper slammed a quick-fire hundred. The batting relied heavily on Hope, who found support in only Romario Shepherd, while others failed to convert starts.
Youngster Alick Athanaze continued his dream run in international cricket making an impressive 66, but failed to move on. Much will be expected from the likes of Brandon King and Shimron Hetmyer, with West Indies fielding a relatively young line-up.
Gudakesh Motie proved to be a game-changer for the Windies, with Oshane Thomas providing able support. Wickets upfront will be key where Alzarri Joseph and Shepherd need to step up, along with spinner Yannic Cariah.
England
Led by Jos Buttler, England batters dished out runs but failed to provide an impetus. Phil Salt and Zak Crawley entered the 40s and could not push on, which almost led to a collapse. Harry Brook stabilised the ship for England, slamming a 72-ball 71, as contributions from Sam Curran and Brydon Carse helped the visitors reach 325.
The lack of runs from Buttler's bat remains the most worrisome news for England, given how the batting revolves around him. A wafer-thin bowling does not help much, with England management opting for all youngsters. Rehan Ahmed was the only bright-light in England's bowling in the first ODI as others including Curran were taken to the cleaners.
An improved bowling is a must if the Three Lions need to stay alive in the series and head into the decider with high hopes.
