Why South Africa Is Called Chokers? Proteas 'In Tatters' In World Cup Semi Final Vs Australia

Every time one thinks South Africa's unwanted 'chokers' tag is about to be destroyed, the Proteas find a new way to mess themselves up. Similarly, they crumbled at Eden Gardens on Thursday during their World Cup 2023 semi-final against Australia.

The South African team have been the team to watch since the beginning of the World Cup 2023. They cruised past almost every opponent with such audacity, and many predicted Quinton de Kock and Co. would meet Rohit Sharma’s India in the summit clash.

Although cricket is a game where fortunes change very quickly, it is highly unlikely that South Africa can find a way to defeat Australia at this point. As rain interrupted the game, they were left reeling at 44/4 after 14 overs, with Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller in the middle, both batting on 10*.

Although South Africa and Australia both finished the league stage on 14 points, the former’s superior net run rate (NRR) helped them finish above the five-time champions. Will they find a way to make a match out of it after the break? We will find out soon.
