Shaheen Afridi Named Pakistan’s Captain In T20Is; Shan Masood To Lead In Tests

Shaheen Afridi has been selected as Pakistan's T20I captain, a massive development for the Men in Green. On the other hand, veteran batsman Shan Masood will be in charge of Pakistan in Tests, as confirmed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Wednesday.

Hours before PCB's latest announcement, Babar Azam shocked the world by abruptly resigning from his position as Pakistan's captain in all formats.

Shaheen is yet to make his debut as Pakistan’s skipper. However, he captains Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), and more significantly, they won the title under his leadership in 2022.

Similarly, Masood, the 34-year-old veteran, has not captained Pakistan for once across any formats. However, he has previous experience as a leader as well, having led Multan Sultans, Southern Punjab Cricket Team, as well as Yorkshire County Cricket Club.

Babar’s resignation clearly made Shaeen a popular candidate for his successor. Hence, his selection was no surprise, whereas Masood’s appointment raised many eyebrows.

Everything began with Pakistan’s shocking exit from the World Cup 2023, where they finished fifth under Babar’s captaincy with four wins and five defeats. Now, with the change of captains, will Pakistan turn the tide? Well, we will find out very soon.
