4 matches into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season and Rishabh Pant, the Lucknow Super Giants captain continues to produce flop show. He failed to deliver the goods in 5 back-to-back games and now questions have been raised on the LSG owner, Sanjiv Goenka, who paid 27 crore to buy him.

Neither his captaincy has looked promising, nor his batting has that charm left. Hence, here are couple of key aspects as to why Sanjiv Goenka might take some harsh call on his leadership.

1) Runs have dried up ever-since becoming captain

LSG owner spent a hefty amount of money on buying Pant, and also made him the captain, but 6 matches in and he has been a disaster-class for his team. Surely his team has won 3 out of 5 matches, but the captaincy has brutally affected his batting.

As the stats say, in 6 matches, Pant has just scored 40 runs, and known as an aggressive batter, he has a strike-rate of just 80. His captaincy has clearly affected his batting and it reflects in the stats as well. If Sanjiv Goenka, the LSG owner frees him up of captaincy duties, Pant could solely focus on his batting and his best seasons have come up where he has played as a pure batter.

2) The track record of LSG owner with former captains

When Snjiv Goenka owned Rising Pune Supergiant, he had the great MS Dhoni as the captain for the 2016 season. However, when the team couldn't do well, he replaced MSD with Steve Smith as the captain of the team.

Similarly, he appointed KL Rahul as the LSG skipper with a lot of hope, but those hopes dashed when KL scored runs but the strike-rate was questionable. His patience could come to a breaking point if Pant continues to fail with the bat and the owner could take the same route which he took with MSD and KL Rahul.

Plus, they have a proven international cricket captain in Nicholas Pooran and he should be the one to get the responsibility of leading the team from now on.
