The Mumbai vs Punjab match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 has generated a lot of interest among cricket fans. This is an important league game since it pits the two top teams in Group C.

Yet, in a surprising decision, this high-profile game will not be televised or live-streamed. The reason is simple but disappointing.

Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer snubbed from the VHT broadcast

Only a select few matches from Round 7 of the Vijay Hazare Trophy are being broadcast.

According to official information, only the Karnataka vs Madhya Pradesh and Baroda vs Chandigarh games will be available on JioHotstar. All other matches, including Mumbai vs Punjab, will not be shown live.

What makes it even more bizarre is the fact that the Mumbai vs Punjab match features India’s ODI captain, Shubman Gill, and vice-captain, Shreyas Iyer.

Gill is playing for Punjab, and Iyer is captain of Mumbai. Now, these are two of the most valued names in Indian cricket and are considered indispensable to the national team.

With an ODI series against New Zealand starting on January 11, fans were hoping to watch both players in action in the 50-over format to assess their current form.

The Mumbai vs Punjab clash is also important from a tournament perspective. Both teams have already qualified for the quarterfinals and are fighting for the top spot in Group C.

Gill, Iyer’s recent form in the Vijay Hazare Trophy

Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill have had contrasting starts to their Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 campaigns ahead of the New Zealand ODI series.

Iyer made an immediate impact on his return from injury, smashing a fluent 82 off just 53 balls for Mumbai against Himachal Pradesh.

In contrast, Gill endured a disappointing outing for Punjab, managing only 11 in a chase against Goa. With India’s ODI captain struggling and vice-captain thriving, the domestic form watch has suddenly become more interesting.
