In the opening match of IPL 2025 between KKR and RCB at Eden Gardens, the visitors are on the course of an easy win and start the campaign on a high courtesy of Virat Kohli. The former RCB skipper was breathing fire as he smashed a brilliant fifty that put the Challengers in a comfortable position.

Notably, KKR, batting first, put just 75 runs on the board as Krunal Pandya's three-wicket haul restricted the defending champions to a below-par score. Further, in the second innings, RCB got off to a flyer as they amassed their second-highest total in powerplay in IPL history - (80).

RCB Goes Berserk In IPL 2025 Opening Match

Further, what caught fans' attention was that KKR, who were struggling since the start of the second innings, weren't given a second new ball as per the new rules introduced by IPL recently. Notably, just a couple of days before the start of the 18th edition of the cash-stuffed league, BCCI updated a few rules and introduced a second new-ball in the 11th over of the second innings to help the bowling second team to battle dew factor.

But why weren't KKR given a new second ball in the 11th over of the 2nd innings? Here's the Truth

Why Didn't KKR Get New Ball In 11th Over Of 2nd Innings?

As mentioned by Harsha Bhogle during the commentary, the rule is a bit complicated and it only depends on the umpire whether they feel there is enough dew for them to provide a dry new-ball to the chasing team.

Thus, for the fans, it is important to remember that giving a second ball in the 2nd innings of a match isn't mandatory as per BCCI, but instead the power lies in umpires' hands and they decide should the chasing team get a new ball or not.

Further, the team fielding second can ask for the 2nd ball anytime after the 11th over in the second innings. Nonetheless, there is no clarity over the exact rules and a controversy is expected over this rule in upcoming games.
