Andre Russell For West Indies (Source:@ICC/X.com)
West Indies are in the middle of a three-match T20I series against England and after losing the first game, the Men in Maroon would be itching to make a strong comeback. However, one of their star players, Andre Russell is not part of the playing XI for the second game and has been replaced by Akeal Hosein.
Andre Russell Misses Out Due To Injury In A Do-Or-Die Match
According to the West Indian captain, Shai Hope, Andre Russell is not playing the second T20I in Chester-le-Street because of a niggle. The big all-rounder is now 37-year-old and has been prone to injuries right throughout his career. His presence at the international level has been limited over the years but he has been a regular part of franchise leagues across the globe.
In the first match of the series, Andre Russell did bowl two overs where he gave 25 runs and picked up a wicket. He also scored 15 runs with the bat, and it is still unclear whether he picked up a niggle during the match or in the training session. The all-rounder has been pretty vocal over his commitment to West Indies cricket in recent times and was also part of the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
England Eye Series Win Against Struggling West Indies
Overall, Russell's absence will be a big loss for West Indies as they try to keep the series alive. However, his replacement, Akeal Hosein is also a quality cricketer and can trouble English batters who tend to struggle against spin. The home team won the first game by 21 runs with former captain Jos Buttler scoring 96 runs.
Liam Dawson was the star with the ball, picking four crucial wickets and Harry Brook would be hoping that his boys complete the series win and continue their dominance over two-time T20 World Cup Champions.
