The T20 Mumbai League season 3 got underway on June 4 with eight teams battling it out in the revamped and new-looking competition. The MCA did a makeover to the tournament, and now it features the likes of international stars such as Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer.

Besides the veterans, eyes were also on budding stars who shone in the recently concluded IPL. CSK sensation Ayush Mhatre, who took the 18th edition of the cash-studded league by storm, was one to keep an eye on. However, his absence from the league has made the fans talking on the internet.

Ayush Mhatre Bags Fourth Best Deal In Mumbai T20 League

Notably, the 17-year-old cricketer joined CSK as injured Ruturaj Gaikwad's replacement and made a mark from day 1. The Mumbai-based cricketer scored 240 runs in just seven innings, averaging 34.29. Impressed by the performance, he was one of the hot topics during the Mumbai T20 League auction.

Mhatre turned out to be the fourth-highest pick of the auction as Triumph Knights Mumbai North East roped him in for 14.75 lakhs. However, the Suryakumar Yadav-led side have played four matches, but there are no signs of Mhatre. But why is the new rising star absent from the Mumbai T20 League despite being tournament's one of the highest-paid stars?

Why Is Ayush Mhatre Not Playing In Mumbai T20 League?

For the unversed, the Mumbai T20 League was originally planned to take place from May 26 to June 8, but the tournament had to be pushed because of the heightened tensions between India and Pakistan. It led to a small hiatus, and the MCA pushed the league from June 4 to 10.

Now, Mhatre has also been appointed as India Under 19 captain, and the side will tour England later in the month for a multi-format series. Therefore, the squad members, including Mhatre, are present at the NCA U-19 camp, where they are practising for the vital series. Recently, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who is also a part of the tour, made the headlines as he tonked bowlers for sixes during this camp.
