Adrian le Roux, who is a qualified sports scientist from South Africa, has been appointed as the new strength and conditioning coach of the Indian men's cricket team for the upcoming tour of England, replacing Soham Desai. Le Roux joined the Indian Test squad, led by Shubman Gill, immediately after completing his successful stint with IPL 2025 finalists Punjab Kings.

His presence was confirmed in a training video shared by the BCCI on June 8, showing the team engaging in a high-intensity training session at Lord’s as preparations began for the five-match Test series against England, starting June 20 at Headingley, Leeds.

Le Roux’s Second Innings with India Begins at Lord’s

This marks Le Roux’s second stint with the Indian men’s cricket team as he previously served from January 2002 to May 2003 under coach John Wright, contributing significantly to India’s landmark Natwest Series win at Lord’s in 2002. Following his first tenure with the Men in Blue, Le Roux returned to his home country to serve as South Africa’s strength and conditioning coach from 2003 to 2007.

His passion for endurance sports, including running, cycling, triathlons, and ultra-endurance events, has heavily influenced his approach to athlete development, emphasizing stamina and mental toughness.

According to his personal website, Le Roux has participated in numerous endurance events over the decades, underscoring his deep commitment to holistic fitness. Known for designing and implementing sport-specific training programmes, his methods focus on enhancing athletic performance through strength, agility, and physical resilience.

In franchise cricket, Le Roux is best known for his long association with the 3-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders from 2008 to 2019, playing a vital role in shaping the team’s fitness culture for more than a decade. After his KKR tenure, he joined the Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) as a consultant of athlete management.

After a 6-year-long association with the Punjab franchise and playing an instrumental role in their impressive 2025 IPL campaign under captain Shreyas Iyer, Le Roux said goodbye to the Kings' family as he made his return into international arena for team India after 22 years ahead of a crucial overseas Test series.

With his wealth of experience, scientific approach, and proven track record, Adrian le Roux is expected to be a significant asset as India prepares for the challenges of English conditions under the new captain Shubman Gill.
