On Sunday, January 5, Babar Azam stole the limelight after the 30-year-old smashed his second straight fifty in the 2nd Test against South Africa. Babar, who came to open innings in place of injured Saim Ayub, played a valuable knock of 58 (127), which featured seven fours.
It was a brilliant knock from Babar as he looked in touch before throwing his wicket away to Kwena Maphaka. As soon as Babar reached his fifty, his bat too became the talk of the town as the fans saw a change.
It is worth noting that Babar has ended his four-year contract with the Gray-Nicolls brand. The right-hand batter has now partnered with CA Sports, a Pakistan-based sports equipment company.
Why Did Babar Leave Gray-Nicolls?
The move is touted to be a boost for Pakistani companies as it will promote local brands. The company was founded in 1958 and sponsored several stars such as Eion Morgan, Jason Roy, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Tamim Iqbal, Fakhar Zaman, Mohsin Sameer from Gohar Textile and many other cricketers.
The move is also looked at Babar not being able to score runs with Gray Nicholas's bat as he had to struggle for a fifty in Tests in 19 innings before he got one in the first Test. While the reason behind in change of bat is unknown, it is also assumed that his tenure with Gray Nicholas was only till the end of 2024.
CA Bats Get Sold Out In Minutes
As soon as the company announced that Babar Azam would be using their bat, it went unsold in minutes. It also signifies the impact Babar holds in Pakistan. The company took to social media platform to announce the rapid growth in their sales.
Now since Babar has scored a fifty with the new bat, it will also give him a phycological edge and help him return to form before Champions Trophy 2025.
