The stage is set for a riveting battle as India and New Zealand will collide against each other in the finale of the Champions Trophy at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The two sides have announced their playing XI and while the Indian side has gone unchanged, Kiwis have once again raised the eyebrow by not playing Devon Conway.
Prior to the tournament, Conway was their main opener, but things have changed as the knockouts approached.
Why Conway is not playing Vs India in Champions Trophy final?
New Zealand fans wanted to see a Rachin Ravindra and Devon Conway partnership, but captain Mitch Santner had some other plans as he dropped the Kiwi opener after just two games in the tournament. Here are two key reasons why he hasn't featured for the Black Caps in the finale.
- Kiwis have gone in with left-right combination in Will Young and Rachin Ravindra and the duo have complimented each other really well. Throughout the tournament, the duo have given solid starts and that is the reason Kiwis don't want to change their winning formula.
- Conway's form has also been a cause of concern. In 2 matches this tournament, the southpaw has scored just 40 runs, at an average of 20.
- Rachin Ravindra's outstanding run has also not helped his cause. The opener missed the opening match Vs Pakistan, but has now scored two centuries and is the leading contender for the Player of the Tournament.
The New Zealand side have won the toss and on a dry wicket, Santner decided to test the Indian bowlers as he has elected to bat first.
