The Chennai Super Kings made an inevitable decision as they have handed a debut cap to 17-year-old youngster Ayush Mhatre against their arch-rivals, Mumbai Indians. The Super Kings' batting has been questionable this season and Mhatre was brought into the side as Ruturaj Gaikwad's replacement.
The MS Dhoni led side trusted the youngster who impressed everyone in the trials and as a result, will make his IPL debut. He has replaced the out of form Rahul Tripathi in the playing XI. In 5 matches, Tripathi had scored just 55 runs and was woefully out of touch and as a result, MS Dhoni took the tough decision.
Why Mhatre was picked in the playing XI?
Despite being 17-years-old, Mhatre impressed CSK at their trials and when Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament, the team instantly drafted him in the side. Interestingly, Mhatre has never played a T20 game domestically, but in List-A cricket, he plays with an aggression and for this particular reason, MS Dhoni's team decided to rope him in the team.
The Mumbai cricketer has a terrific record in first-class and List-A cricket and CSK wanted to build a team for the future as they drafted him in the playing XI against Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians won the toss and they elected to bowl first as the team will once again look to chase down the total.
