Shubman Gill celebrated his first Test series win as India’s captain after the hosts defeated West Indies 2-0 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Tuesday. Although India needed only 58 runs on the final day, the team took 17.2 overs to reach the target and won comfortably by seven wickets.
Starting the day at 63/1, KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan began steadily. However, Rahul broke the scoring deadlock with a few boundaries. Meanwhile, Sudharsan was unlucky to be caught brilliantly by Shai Hope at slips, and Gill was dismissed while trying to finish the game too quickly. Eventually, it was Rahul who scored his fifty and hit the winning runs, giving India a perfect end to the series.
Gill had first led India in Tests during the England tour, which ended in an exciting 2-2 draw. Now, he is also preparing to captain India in ODIs for the first time, in a three-match series against Australia.
What is next for India in Tests? After the West Indies series, India will host South Africa for two Tests next month. The first match will be at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens from November 14-18, while the second will take place in Guwahati at Barsapara Stadium from November 22-26.
Following South Africa series, India will focus on white-ball cricket before returning to Tests with a one-off match against Afghanistan in June 2026.
India’s Upcoming Schedule (Remaining 2025)
India will tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is before returning home for the South Africa Test series. This means the players will have very little break between formats.
