As another edition of the historic Test series is coming up next month, the thrills are soaring high as the players of both sides are sharpening their skills. England aims to end their long-standing struggle against the Aussies, and Joe Root’s record on Australian soil is generating major buzz.
As the veteran English batter has ruled the world cricket but the Australian soil has always proved to be challenging for him. His 89 in Brisbane remained his highest score in Australia, and smashing a century in the nation is still on Root’s bucket list. Speaking to Sky Sports, Root revealed he’s determined to tick off that milestone and score his maiden Test hundred on Australian soil.
“I am sure there is going to be a lot of talk around (me not scoring a hundred as of yet) but I feel ready for it. Big series are the ones you want to play in and contribute in,” Root said.
Will it be England’s turn in the 2025–26 Ashes?
Over the years, the arch-rivals have entertained the cricket world with some best Test thrillers. But since 2015, the tide has firmly turned, with Australia asserting its dominance. England hasn’t lifted the Ashes down under since 2011 on Aussie soil, adding extra pressure on the visitors. As the series approaches, Root is hopeful for a magical turnaround in England’s favor.
“I feel that is the opportunity in front of us that we have to chase and grab. If I am doing my role in the team, then personal accolades will come, but it's not the main focus. It's about winning that urn back as it has been a long time since we held it,” Root added.
Adding excitement to the mix, the first match of the Ashes is set to be played on November 21 in Perth. As the arch-rivals are all set to take the big stage, the cricket world is excited for some intense red-ball action.
