Shubman Gill and Team India have etched their name in the history books as for the first time since the famous 2007 Oval Test match, the Indian side has managed to post more than 500 runs in a single innings in England. 18 years have passed and since then, India have toured England 4 times but they have never been able to breach the mark.

However, on Thursday, the Shubman Gill led side did the unthinkable as they scored in excess of 500 and have made a mockery of the English attack. Captain Gill led from the front as the India batter became the first captain of the nation to score a double century against England in England.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja also slammed crucial runs as England bowlers toiled hard and are yet to dismiss the Indian team. Hence, with 600-runs approaching quickly, we look at the highest team total posted by India in Tests.

Ironically, India's highest team total in Test cricket came up against England in the famous 2016 Chennai Test match. It is the same match where Karun Nair slammed his maiden Test triple ton. In that match, India posted 759/7 as they went on to win the game.

Their highest score came against England in 2016 and the second highest score was against Sri Lanka in 2009. The match was played at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai and India posted 726/9, courtesy of a brilliant 293 by Virender Sehwag.

Then, a year later, they hammered Sri Lanka once again, this time piling on 707 in Colombo. The iconic Sydney Test in 2004 witnessed a classical Sachin Tendulkar double ton and India's fourth highest total of 705/7.

India faced Bangladesh in a Test match in 2017 and the Asian Giants hammered 687/6 which was their fifth highest score in red-ball cricket.
