The Edgbaston pitch was a batting paradise and the duo of Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja made full use of the batting conditions as they made a mockery of the English attack and took India to a strong position with a brilliant 6th wicket partnership. India lost a couple of key wickets on Day 1 and they needed someone to steady the sinking ship
.England had the upper hand when Jadeja joined the crease but the all-rounder, alongside his skipper took the attack to the English bowlers and created history with an epic partnership which broke the English hope.
Jadeja-Gill register their name in history books
The duo added 203 runs for the 6th wicket, and this was the second-highest partnership for the 6th wicket by an Indian pair Vs England at Edgbaston. The highest sixth-wicket partnership was 222 runs and interestingly, Jadeja was involved in it alongside keeper-batter, Rishabh Pant.
The historic knock came during the one-off Test match in 2022. In that game, India were crumbling before Jadeja and Pant scored their respective centuries and bailed India out of a precarious situation. However, the knocks went in vain as the visitors lost the match as England chased down their highest total in Test cricket.
Just like the Pant-Jadeja partnership, this knock has ensured that England are pushed on the back-foot on Day 2.

Highest 6th wicket partnership for IND Vs ENG In Tests
This is also the third highest overall partnership by a 6th wicket Indian pair against England in Tests. Pant and Jadeja sits at the top and Pant and KL Rahul take the second spot as they added 204 runs against England at the Oval in 2018.
The 2023 run partnership has ensured that India are in the driving seat as England aim for wickets to bundle out India.
