The Lucknow Super Giants succumbed to final-over pressure, as they lost to Punjab Kings by two wickets and three balls to spare. The defeat snapped their two-game winning run this IPL 2023 season, however, they continue to hold their number two spot on the points table.

After the match, captain KL Rahul spoke about his own return to form, and acknowledged the factors that led to his team’s downfall against a Shikhar Dhawan-less Punjab Kings side.

KL Rahul says batters fell short after blazing start

Super Giants skipper KL Rahul returned to his usual self by smacking 74 from just 56 balls at the top of the order. The cricketer formed crucial stands with Kyle Mayers and Krunal Pandya, before his team’s middle-order lost their way to manage just 159-8 despite a blazing start to the innings.

After the match, Rahul stated that his team fell 10 runs short upfront, and also blamed his bowlers for not doing enough to defend the total.

“We were about 10 short, the dew came in and helped the batters a bit more. We didn't do too well with the ball,”

The skipper also took an excellent diving catch to dismiss Jitesh Sharma. When praised for the grab, he said:

“Game on the line, you have to give it everything on the field. I saw the ball and went for it,”

The batting veteran further explained the thought process behind team selection and discussed about finding the right balance for the side.

“Each player has a different role, we are 7-8 batters in our team and few are powerful enough to clear every boundary, the others have different skills. We each play our role and that's what makes the team exciting. We have power in Pooran and Stoin, and Mayers up top takes the aggressive route. For each player taking that aggressive route can look different, you have to stick to what works best for you.”

The LSG will now face the Rajasthan Royals on April 19. The match will be played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
