IPL 2023 | Mumbai Indians to Don a 'Special Jersey' Against KKR

Mumbai Indians is set to face the Kolkata Knight Riders in match number 22 of the ongoing IPL 2023 season. The much-awaited fixture will be staged at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on April 16.

Through the match, the Mumbai Indians franchise will also be celebrating a unique initiative, intended to raise awareness of education and sports among aspiring young women.

Rohit Sharma and co. to wear WPL jersey

Mumbai Indians, under Rohit Sharma, will be taking field against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium in front of 19,000 young girls from across 36 NGOs. The event, organised by franchise owners’ Reliance Foundation, is part of their Education and Sports for All (ESA) initiative.

Speaking ahead of the game, Mumbai Indians co-owner Nita Ambani said:

“This special match is a celebration of women in sports. This year saw a landmark beginning for India's women cricketers with the first ever Women’s Premier League. To spotlight girls' right to education and sport, we are dedicating this year’s ESA event to the girl child!”

Notably, the match will also be attended by Mumbai Indians’ WPL winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur. Moreover, the men’s side will be seen wearing the WPL jersey to commemorate the occasion.
