Yuzvendra Chahal made a remarkable debut for Northamptonshire in the One Day Cup against Kent on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

He delivered an exceptional bowling performance. The leg-spinner took 5 wickets for just 14 runs in his 10 overs, which included five maidens.  Chahal's brilliant spell played a crucial role as it dismantled Kent's middle and lower order, which led to their collapse as they were bowled out for a mere 82 runs in 35.1 overs.

Yuzvendra Chahal's victims included Jaydn Denly, Ekansh Singh, Grant Stewart, and Nathan Gilchrist. Kent lost their last six wickets for just 33 runs, with significant contribution from Chahal's masterful bowling. 

This performance added to Chahal's impressive record, having previously played for Kent in the 2023 season, where he picked up nine wickets in two of their final three Division One matches.


Despite neither side had a chance to qualify for the knockout stages, a respectable crowd of approximately 2,300 gathered at the Spitfire Ground. 

Earlier in the match, Kent won the toss and elected to bat, but unfortunately, both openers were dismissed cheaply. Broad had Marcus O'Riordan caught at first slip by Prithvi Shaw for 5, and Luke Procter bowled Joey Evison for 1. 

In addition, Justin Broad and Chahal delivered exceptional bowling performances, with Broad scalped 3 wickets for 16 runs. 

Northants efficiently reached the target in only 14 overs. James Sales finished on 32 not out and George Bartlett unbeaten on 31, which led the visitors to a convincing victory with 216 balls to spare.
