Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal smeared a six and a boundary off consecutive deliveries against England’s debutant Shoaib Bashir to get to his half-century within the opening session of the second Test. The cricketer completed the milestone figure from 89 balls before he guided Team India to 103-2 by lunch.

The innings marked Jaiswal’s second successive half-century, considering he also whacked an attacking 80 in the opening recital of the Hyderabad Test match last week.

Yashasvi Jaiswal takes the attack to debutant

Yashasvi Jaiswal ripped apart England’s charged-up spinner Shoaib Bashir with successive boundaries at the stroke of lunch on Day 1. The Indian opener crashed the visiting debutant with a six and a four in the penultimate over before the first break as the hosts blazed their way near the 100-run mark.

Jaiswal’s two-ball fury also helped him complete his own half-century, as he walked towards the sheds with an unbeaten 51 to his name.

Earlier in the day, Shoaib Bashir removed Indian captain Rohit Sharma to achieve his maiden wicket in international cricket. The 20-year-old had the Indian opener trapped down at leg slip by senior teammate Ollie Pope.

Following Sharma’s dismissal, Yashasvi Jaiswal shared an identical 49-run partnership with number three batsman Shubman Gill until the latter found an edge to England’s seasoned warhorse James Anderson.

Heading into the contest off the back of a 0-1 deficit in the five-match series, Team India captain had won the toss and opted to bat first.
