Virat Kohli, often hailed as one of the finest fielders in cricket, surprisingly dropped an easy catch against Afghanistan in the T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 match at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on June 20.

After setting a target of 182 for Afghanistan, India made an early breakthrough by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the second over.

The incident occurred in the third over when Arshdeep Singh bowled his second over. A straightforward dismissal of Ibrahim Zadran seemed imminent, but Kohli, positioned at backward point, unexpectedly dropped the catch.

The delivery from Arshdeep was a short-of-length ball outside off stump, and Zadran attempted to punch it off the back foot. The ball was airborne and heading over Kohli's head, but within his reach.

Despite getting both hands to the ball, it slipped through his fingers. By Kohli’s standards, it was a simple catch, and his disbelief was evident as he smiled ruefully.

Rohit Sharma was visibly disappointed by the missed opportunity. However, India didn't have to wait long for redemption, as Ibrahim Zadran was later dismissed by bowling all-rounder Axar Patel.

At the time of writing, India are at 167 for 7 in 19 overs, with Arshdeep Singh and Axar Patel at the crease.
