SA Fielding Coach- (Source:@ScreenGrab)
On Monday, February 10, South Africa locked horns against New Zealand in the 2nd match of the tri-series at the Gaddafi Stadium. The Black Caps were the better side, as they beat the Proteas by 6 wickets to reach the final.
South Africa, batting first, put 304 runs on the board, but the Kiwis chased down the target comfortably and won the match in 48 overs. However, the Proteas won't be much disappointed with the result as they had named a young and inexperienced squad for the ongoing series because of two reasons.
SA Field Fielding Coach In 2nd ODI
Firstly, several senior stars were busy in SA20 2025, while another reason was to give rest to regulars as Champions Trophy starts in a week's time. It is worth noting in the 12-man squad, the Proteas named 4 debutants.
However, a rare incident occurred on the field at the Gaddafi Stadium as South Africa fielding coach had to enter the ground and field as substitute fielder after the Proteas fell short of players during the match.
South Africa national cricket team fielding coach Wandile Gwavu took the field in the 37th over of the match. The video has been going viral on the internet.
JP Dumminy Takes Field For South Africa
It is not the first time that such an incident has occurred in cricket as earlier, JP Dumminy had taken the field for South Africa against Ireland in the 2024 series when he served as Proteas' batting coach.
South Africa are expected to make a similar move in their upcoming match against Pakistan as well in Karachi.
