There have been numerous moments in cricketing history where wrong decisions have been made either by a captain or a batter or a bowler or an on-field umpire, but sometimes even the most equipped, like a third umpire, can be on the wrong side of things as well, which happened during one of the Big Bash League games between the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Sixers.

It all happened during the fourth ball of the third over being bowled by Imad Wasim as Sydney were chasing 157 when batter James Vince's shot straight back to the bowler, which deflected towards the stumps, with non-striker Josh Philippe scampering back to save his wicket.

On being sent to the third umpire, it looked quite convincing during the replays that Philippe was well inside his crease with the bat grounded when the bails lit up. However, the third umpire's out decision left everyone confused when the on-field umpire asked the batter to wait as there was some problem.

A few moments later, it was confirmed that the third umpire had pressed the wrong button, which sent all the players and the crowd into a frenzy as the big screen changed the decision from out to not out.

Stars' skipper Glenn Maxwell gave a wild reaction to what happened as he raised his arms, giving it a big laugh.

Turning back the clock, moments like these are not entirely rare, as the cricketing fraternity has witnessed such moments before, most significantly during the Australia-India clash in 2012, when the then Indian skipper MS Dhoni had a serious argument with the umpire over the concerned issue as batter Michael Hussey was wrongly given stumped out.

Coming back to the ongoing game, Sydney chased the target down with ease as Vince's 79 took them to victory by seven wickets.
