Glenn Maxwell retained his trademark six-hitting streak in Match 28 of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2023-24 with a pair of maximums struck against old Australian teammate Steve O'Keefe at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The Melbourne Stars captain dispatched the veteran Sydney Sixers left-arm spinner for two back-to-back sixes down the ground during his attractive little cameo of 31 from just 14 deliveries after walking in at the critical No.4 slot.

With the Stars hoping to overcome a rather sedate powerplay, their skipper took the onus on himself and targeted the experienced O'Keefe among all Sixers bowlers, hitting two maximums down the ground after advancing at the left-arm tweaker.

It was a slightly risky ploy on a track offering the spinners a hint of grip. However, Maxwell backed his instincts and intent by going right to the pitch of the ball and continuing with his elegant downswing for a pair of glorious sixes.

Just when Maxwell was shaping up nicely and posing a dangerous outlook for the Sixers, the big-hitter was out-caught by Sean Abbott off Todd Murphy's bowling.

However, a cameo did its job for the Stars as they managed to up the ante in the middle and found some momentum heading deeper into their innings.

Maxwell has returned to the BBL feeling recharged following a short break since helping Australia win the ICC World Cup 2023 in India.

The extravagant right-hander has played his role of an aggressor to great effect for Stars and struck 191 runs in seven innings at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 170.53.

The 'Big Show' will be hoping to continue in his rich vein and propel the Stars past the challenging league stage on their way to the coveted BBL trophy this summer.
