Texas Super Kings' (TSK) all-rounder Mitchell Santner stunned spectators with a fantastic diving catch, marking another piece of fielding brilliance in the inaugural season of Major League Cricket (MLC) 2023.

Santner pulled of a screamer to dismiss Bishnoi

It all happened during the fourth ball of the 20th over of the SFU innings. As Daniel Sams bowled a wide full-toss, SFU's Chaitanya Bishnoi, who was then at 35 off 20 deliveries, took an aggressive swipe at the ball.

It appeared that the ball was destined for the boundary, but Santner, positioned at a deep point, sprinted towards the rapidly descending ball and pulled off an exceptional dive to grasp it low just before it could touch the ground.

Coming to the game, SFU had set a challenging target of 172 runs. TSK's response got off to a dismal start, losing their captain Faf du Plessis for a duck in the opening over. Although Devon Conway scored a respectable 30, his subsequent wickets of David Miller and Santner himself put TSK in a difficult position, with their score at 92/5 during the 14th over.

However, the team's fortunes shifted when Milind Kumar and Sams engineered a thrilling counter-attacking partnership that turned the tide in TSK's favour. Their partnership featured Sams smashing a hat-trick of sixes in the 17th over.

Despite losing both set batsmen, the Super Kings chased down the target with five balls to spare. The victory has elevated TSK to the second spot in the league standings, right behind the Seattle Orcas. They now join the Orcas and Washington Freedom as the third team to qualify for the playoffs.
