WI vs IND: Lone Warrior Suryakumar Yadav Steers India to 165 in Series Decider

After a stellar batting performance last night in the 4th T20I, the Indian batters struggled to replicate the same form in the final game and were restricted to on the board. Barring Suryakumar Yadav (61), the other Indian batters struggled against a resilient West Indian attack and couldn't post a competitive total on a surface that surely has slowed down.

India struggle on a slow surface

After a promising performance in the 4th T20I, the opening duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill failed to deliver the goods. Jaiswal started on an aggressive note, but Akeal Hosein got his prized wicket for just 5.

Gill, who has had a poor West Indian tour so far, struggled for runs once again and followed his opening partner back to the pavilion. There was a brief counter-attack from India, when Tilak Varma and SKY took the attack to the opposition.

Varma, the leading run-scorer in the series continued his ominous touch and looked all set to score his second fifty of the series, but was eventually sent back for a well-compiled 27 off 18 balls.

India lost Sanju Samson in the next couple of deliveries as pressure mounted on Suryakumar Yadav. The Indian vice-captain stood like a lone warrior and showed his T20 prowess with yet another fifty in the series. But there was hardly any help from the other end as Hardik struggled for runs and India failed to post a respectable total.

SKY maneuvered the field to perfection and his innings was the difference maker between an average score and a respectable total.

Brief Score

India: 165-9 (20)

Suryakumar Yadav 61 (45), Tilak Varma 27 (18);

Romario Shepherd 4-31 (4), Akeal Hosein 2-24 (4)
