The duo expressed their admiration and elation through a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their Twitter handle.
The video brilliantly spotlighted the convergence of passions from two sporting arenas. Gill and Arshdeep, summing up the sentiments of a nation, celebrated the hockey squad's character and undying spirit by congratulating them with a heartwarming message.
“Asian Champions Trophy 2023 Gold A special message to wish the Indian Hockey Team #TeamIndia | #WIvIND | #HACT2023 | @TheHockeyIndia | @ShubmanGill | @arshdeepsinghh,” tweeted BCCI.
The thrilling contest, played at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium in Chennai, had fans on tenterhooks as India lagged 3-1 against Malaysia at halftime. However, the narrative dramatically shifted post-intermission.
The Indian side produced a stunning revival, notching up two rapid goals in the third quarter to level the scores. The climactic moment unfurled in the final stanza, with Akashdeep Singh sealing the deal with a decisive strike, etching a 4-3 win for India.
This win adds to India's impressive record in the Asian Champions Trophy, with previous victories in 2011, 2016 and a shared title with Pakistan in 2018.
In the other part of the world, the Indian team also demonstrated the same resilience and spirit. After losing the first two matches, they also achieved a series-levelling 2-2 win against West Indies on Saturday.
They now have the opportunity to replicate the Indian hockey team's heroics by winning the final T20I that is slated to be played on Sunday in Florida.
