Theekshana dropped an easy catch [X.com]
Experienced Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana had a horrible day on the field in Chennai Super Kings' thirteenth group-stage IPL 2024 game against Rajasthan Royals as he dropped a simple catch to give Riyan Parag a lifeline.
The incident occurred during the twelfth over of RR's innings when they needed someone to up the ante and bail them out of trouble following the dismissal of Jos Buttler.
As veteran CSK all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja bowled the first ball of his new over, Riyan Parag went for an audacious reverse sweep.
He connected the ball well, but somehow failed to get the elevation as it went flat towards the deep backward point fence.
Maheesh Theekshana, who was fielding there, only had to judge the trajectory of the ball and grab it with both hands.
However, in a poor display of fielding, the Lankan spinner failed to get a hold of it, dropping one of the easiest catches of this season.
Theekshana's sloppy fielding left Ravindra Jadeja unamused besides evoking shocking reactions from CSK fans present in the stands.
Nevertheless, CSK have managed to squeeze RR's run rate, riding on Simarjeet Singh's incredible three-fer. As of writing, the visitors were 108 for three in 16.2 overs, with Dhruv Jurel and Riyan Parag batting in the middle.
